See You In Court

The H-F girls’ volleyball team are looking to improve on last year’s season. After getting into the playoffs last year they are looking to make it back and have a deep run. So far they have a record of 9-2 and are looking to keep up this hot streak.

This team is coached by history teacher Robert St. Leger who has been training the team all off-season.

This past weekend, the team won a big tournament featuring many teams.

It was great to take 1st place for sure,” St. Leger said. “Coming back to beat St. Laurence after previously losing to them showed the resilience this team has. My hope is that it will continue to increase our confidence as we will play many high-quality teams as the year progresses.”

Ozoh was also asked

“I feel like we started to really put it together, [during the tournament],” said sophomore middle blocker Ihuoma Ozoh. “We really caught a rhythm and figured out what our strengths were and how to use them. We’ll definitely be able to use that in the future”.

This team has high expectations and they are looking to exceed them every day.

“Expectations are tough,” admitted St. Leger. “Every day we want to get a little bit better, and the main thing we ask of the girls is that they control the things that they can control, which is their attitude, effort, and how they communicate with one another and their coaches. If we take care of those things consistently, success will come naturally.”

“We’re gonna be a good team, we just need to continue to improve our defense, our offense is pretty good from what the tournament has shown us and I hope we can beat the big schools like Lincoln Way East,” said Ozoh.

”We expect all of our players to improve as the season progresses.  Everyone comes in at a different level and everyone can improve in all facets of the game,” said St. Leger. “We are very young, 3 sophomores see significant playing time and with the exception of LaDonna Trantham, everyone is new to the varsity level. There will be some growing pains but it is a very talented bunch.”

With lots of talent and great coaching, the team is looking to go far into the playoffs.
