The Chicago Cubs have had a remarkable comeback season, boasting a 92-70 record to end the regular season.
On Sept. 17, the Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4, clinching a spot in the playoffs for the first time in five years.
The Cubs currently have the fourth-best record in the National League, only behind the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers who are a combined 17-13 in their last 30 games.
Although they are only fourth in their league, the Cubs still have the sixth-best record in the entire MLB.
Last year, the Cubs finished with a record of 83-79, while this year, the Cubs surpassed this record by 9 wins to cap off the season.
On Dec. 13, 2024, the Cubs made a blockbuster trade, sending infielders Issac Paredes, Cam Smith and pitcher Hayden Wesneski to the Houston Astros in exchange for superstar right fielder Kyle Tucker.
Tucker’s impact showed, crushing 22 home runs with 73 runs batted in on a .266 batting average while being a crucial piece in the Cubs’ success this season.
Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong had a breakout season for the Cubs, blasting 31 home runs and 95 runs batted in.
Despite Crow-Armstrong’s level of play this season, he has been in a slump as of late, with a batting average of .221 and only eight hits in his last 10 games.
Injuries have been a significant downfall for the Cubs recently. Kyle Tucker suffered a left calf strain on Sept. 9 but returned Sept. 26 in the Cubs’ final regular season series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Closing Pitcher Daniel Palencia dealt with a shoulder strain that he sustained on Sept. 8 but he made his return on Sept. 24.
The Cubs played their first playoff game since 2020 and sought their first playoff win since 2017 in a 3-1 victory against the San Diego Padres.
