Making a mark
After an exciting beginning to the season, the boys basketball team has continued their success.
With a close win over rival Stevenson High School, the Vikings gave themselves a chance to win another tournament championship. Unfortunately, the Vikings couldn’t trim Crespi’s lead and lost 41-50.
However, during the Hinsdale Holiday Classic, the Vikings gave the program its 1,000th win in school history.
“The boys secured their program’s 1000th win at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic over a talented Rockford Auburn team,” athletic director Dan Vosnos said. “Milestones like this are special not only for Coach Condotti’s program, but for the past Vikings who had everything to do with this outstanding achievement.”
After starting 1-1 in a tough series of games, the Vikings were able to improve their record to 11-4.
“Those games taught us to always come out and play hard, smart and aggressive,” junior guard Trelan Morrow said.
Although most of their remaining games are against opponents they have already faced once this season, the Vikings can’t afford to take any opponent lightly with playoffs nearing.
“Playing city teams helped prepare us for a tough playoff schedule because it’s a different style of play,” senior captain Bernie Coderre said. “Those games taught us how to handle pressure and everything teams throw at us.”
The Vikings play Sandburg today and Hillcrest on Saturday.
The Vikings beat Hillcrest earlier this year (64-60) to win the Chicago Heights Classic.
“The game against Hillcrest will be a lot tougher because they’re going to come out strong and aggressive, but I know we’re going to come out ready for them like we were at the Classic,” Morrow said
