Dear Obama

Dear Obama,

It’s been almost two years since you left office, and almost two years since Americans elected the worst thing that has ever happened to our country.

We know you’re enjoying your time off with Michelle, soaking up the sun in Martha’s Vineyard and relaxing with your family, but we just have to tell you one thing-

Obama, we miss you.

When you won your first election in 2008, we were only in elementary school. As young children, we didn’t know how good we were going to have it.

For the next eight years, you were the most humble and caring president to date. You had an undenying love for the American population and truly wanted to see positive change happen in society.

During your time in office, you rescued the economy- cutting the unemployment rate in half, ordered the killing of Osama Bin Laden, created a new policy allowing gay and lesibians to serve in the military, protected undocumented children from deportation and allowed them to apply for work permits, and so much more.

Today, our president is hateful and vicious. He cares only about himself and uses twitter more than he works on the actual problems we have going on around us.

We wish we could remember a time when the top headlines on the news everyday didn’t include the man running our country. We wish our current president didn’t have multiple sexual assault allegations against him and wasn’t accused of voter fraud during the election.

We miss when the public only had good things to say about the man running our country. We miss when we respected and admired the president.

Obama, you did so much good for our country. From creating Obama Care that provided health insurance to over 20 million uninsured Americans, to supporting the LGBTQ community throughout your presidency and encouraging the supreme court decision that legalized gay marriage, you never let us down.

Today, we are stuck with a man who constantly vocalizes his misogynistic, racists, homophobic views. Trump wants to repeal Obama Care, our President doesn’t believe in climate change.

Trump also created a zero tolerance policy earlier in the year. This called for the prosecution of all individuals who illegally enter the United States. Basically, this policy is what separated almost 2,300 children from their parents in May 2018. After the scarring this caused many families, Trump finally lifted the ban in June 2018, but did nothing to help the rebuilding of the devastation he caused.

Obama, we really didn’t know how good we had it.

We wish we could have you back. Thank you for showing us what a true leader looks like, we miss you Obama.
