Political neutrality- The impossible game

What do the Epstein files, 34 felony counts and a civil rape case all have in common? If you guessed President Donald Trump, then you would be correct. All of this information was available to Americans before the election, so it begs the question, how was Trump able to win?

One of the main reasons is that almost 36 percent of Americans, who were eligible to vote, chose not to, according to U.S News.

“What is the point [of voting]?” A U.S. citizen asked The Guardian. “Aside from a handful of weaponized issues, the parties are nearly identical. They both hate the poor and serve only their donors,” he said.

If you’re one of those people who are “politically neutral” in today’s climate, you are choosing to side with Trump and his administration.

I’d like to clarify what exactly I mean by politically neutral. I don’t mean those who can find pros and cons with both sides, or the people who tend to switch which party they vote for based on the candidates. I mean those who can’t see the difference between Kamala Harris’ questionable policies on Israel and Trump’s civil sexual assault conviction.

By choosing to equate the two candidates, you’re trivializing Trump’s actions and, therefore, creating a culture where sexual assault is dismissed as yet another mark on someone’s record. By doing this, we’re choosing not to see the bigger picture. This conviction has proven to be just the tip of the horrifying iceberg.

Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, his Mar-a-Lago club and other references to the President appear over 38,000 times in the Epstein Files. The files contain allegations that Trump sexually assaulted multiple women, including some underage girls.

If you can see all of this and still not be able to say, with full certainty, that this man has no place as the President of the United States, you are clearly choosing a side. That is the side that has chosen a man who was found civilly liable for the sexual abuse of E. Jean Carroll as their best candidate for the presidency.

Equating Harris and Trump is like comparing a bruised apple to a rotten one. Yes, the bruised one isn’t ideal, but you can stomach it better than the rotten one.

Now, this isn’t to say that you can’t find the faults within Harris, or the Democratic party as a whole. I truly believe that you should be the most critical of those you support. This does mean, however, that you have to acknowledge that while Harris’s fracking policy is terrible, it is better than having an alleged child rapist in office.

By turning a blind eye to these issues, you’re contributing. The 90 million Americans who chose not to vote had the opportunity to shift the election to a more favorable outcome. Since many non-voters chose to stick to single policy voting, or simply could not find the difference in the candidates, we are stuck with the consequences of their inaction.
