Meet the Artist: Asante Hayes

What type of art media do you use?

I’m interested in several types of art, but currently I am doing film, photography, digital visual effects, short stories and material design. I feel like I have to be creative because there is such an overwhelming amount of emotions that I need to let loose.

Favorite piece?

My favorite piece would have to be this dope photo reel I did during the summer in Chicago. I shot this particular reel in 35mm film. I woke up around 4:30 a.m. to get the perfect shots of the beautiful sky. I captured pictures of the people, architecture and even outlandish things like fire hydrants and the foot of a pigeon. Sometimes I forget how beautiful Chicago is, and this shoot will always be a reminder.

Future plans?

My future plans include growing in relation to myself and with others. I’m still learning, discovering and traveling. I will finally release my debut film around March. For my career I plan on doing biomedical engineering. I love inventing new things. There will always be a place in my heart for art.

Be creative and start a new trend. Do something the world has never seen. If you put the time and energy into it it’s bound to happen. Do what you want and be weird it’s so much fun! I’m lucky that many of friends and family have been supporting me every step of the way. Ultimately, just be crazy with whatever you do.
