H-F keeping the spirit alive with different holiday traditions that bring us together

Holiday traditions bring joy throughout families and H-F

There are many different ways people celebrate holidays, the best part is when you and your family gather together for family traditions

Some traditions are passed down through generations and remind us of what matters most: the connection, joy and togetherness

It doesn’t matter old or new, it celebrates our love for one another.

Winter holidays are so special to people around the world, and the different ways to celebrate make this holiday unique for you.

After asking a couple students, most traditions on Christmas include gathering with family, feasting, opening presents and having a good time.

In a survey given to all Compass classes, The Voyager found 95.8% of students celebrated Christmas mostly.

Adrienne Campos, a senior at H-F, stated “My favorite Holiday tradition would be me and my parents choosing a color theme for our tree and wrapping paper, this year it’s green and gold.

“We put up the tree together and then me and my mom watch “Barbie in a Christmas Carol”,me

and my best friend of 11 years always goes and takes pictures with Santa as well.”

She also says, “Something that makes Christmas unique to me is that it really is only a happy event if you make it one, the happiness is brought to

you from the things you do and the situation you put yourself in.”

“For me it’s happy because it’s really the only time I get to see my long distance family and I get to spoil my parents with presents.”

Kate Gleason, another senior, stated that “On Christmas Eve, my Polish family celebrates by sharing oplatki.”

“It’s this sheet of wafer that’

s made from flour and water, and we go around the room and greet each family member individually.”

She continued, “We break off a piece [from] each other and eat it, then we hug and say Merry Christmas; this is my favorite because me and my cousins joke about how big of a piece we can steal from each other.”

Holidays are meant to build exciting memories, no matter how you celebrate or which holidays you celebrate.

It could be something small or extravagant, but it’ll always be a core memory because it’s something that only happens once a year.

Senior Melody Speight said “My family holiday tradition is Christmas, this is because I’m able to be around my loved ones and get together to enjoy food and my great grandma’s dish, which is peach cobbler and fried egg rolls.”

She continued with “What makes Christmas unique to me is being around my family, who makes me happy and I feel nothing but love and joy.”

In the words of these two students, being with the ones you love makes the holiday even more special than just getting gifts and the things you wanted.

It’s just a fun time of the year and gives everyone a reason to smile and feel the love of those around them.

During your favorite holiday this year, look around at your loved ones that you spent this holiday with and live every moment with no regret, just pure enjoyment.

Find what you would like to do to make this holiday season unforgettable for you.
