Game Time ! The soccer team huddling up for a game

The boys’ varsity soccer season has kicked into action, currently holding a record of currently holding a record of 2-11 as of 9/27/23 .

The team has scored 17 goals this season against good teams such as Garcia High school and Rich Township High School getting wins over both teams. There’s a bit of a switch up this year, as the time has a new assistant coach, Nick Lackey. However, not all is new, as coach of three years, Jairo Garcia is still here to try and lead the boys to victory. There’s a bit of a switch up this year, as the time has a new assistant coach, Nick Lackey. However, not all is new, as coach of three years, Jairo Garcia is still here to try and lead the boys to victory.

Nick Lackey is going into his first season as an assistant coach for the team but he seems to be adjusting well into the new role and he’s excited about the team spirit.

“I’m most excited about being out here with the team, I love the team comradery peace HF does a good job coach Jairo does a good job of keeping the boys together high and spirited so it’s good to be a part of that program”.

Lackey is in high spirits about the team in the playoffs and thinks that they could go very deep.

” I think well do really well in the playoffs every game we’ve completed we’ve been in every game and if we play how were supposed to play I know that we could get the results that are needed coach garcia has these guys believing in what we do and if we stick to the plan we could be very successful in the playoffs”

Lackey also likes the fact that many players that have been stepping up in performance this season

” We’ve made a lot of good improvements guys have stepped up in positions we’ve had to move some players around and with doing that we have found some guys that have stepped up to the occasion and definitely improved a lot on our defensive shape and our transitions and are continuing to work on our communication moving the ball forward and scoring goals”.

Garcia and Lackey both see this team going on a deep playoff run, as well as senior Jalen Coleman, who plans to have the best season yet, as it’s his last year.

“I’m most excited for bonding and building the team chemistry up so we can go far in the playoffs,” he Coleman.

Coleman is very optimistic about his final ride

“I expect us to perform well in the playoffs and win against tough opponents.”

Coleman has not only wanted to see improvement in the team but also himself wanting to make more scoring plays for the team.

”I’ve improved a lot with picking my head up to see the entire field and make exciting plays for the team.”,

Additionally, the team has four freshmen coming in hopes to make a big impact on the team. One of the rookies includes Edward Terry, who is hungry to make a mark his first season.

Terry has high hopes for the season.

“I expect us to at least make it to the finals or semi-finals because I think we’re a really good team,” he said.

The next home game for the soccer team will be their regional game on Oct. 10th for senior night against Lincoln Way West. The whole team is hungry for success, and we bid them good luck for the rest of their season.
