Coleman practicing in H-F dance room

Kamaura Colman, class of 2024, is a dancer here at HF. Coleman got her start dancing young at the age of with ballet and hip-hop style dances. Her path into dancing was not a smooth one as she faced bullying because of the color of her skin causing her to drop out of professional dance classes. This bullying however did not kill her passion for dance as she still continued only now teaching herself through the internet and word of mouth from fellow dancers. Through years of practice she has mastered her technique and participates in the Choreography and Dance class offered here at HF. Coleman plans to attend Columbia college Chicago to pursue a professional  career in dance in fall of 2024.  “I don’t know what I would be without it. I am always dancing in my head when I’m listening to music. It’s literally something I cannot take away or live without.” says Coleman. In the meantime, however, she will continue to train and sharpen her skills.
