The Girl’s Volleyball team regular season went well, giving them good momentum going into their postseason.

The Lady Vikings finished their regular season on Oct. 23 with a win for their senior night to put their record at 17-16 and 5-3 in conference.

This year they will be graduating eight seniors: Angelena Alborn, Naimah Calhoun, Makayla Cooper, Alayna Frangella, Zoe McBride, Ihuoma Ozoh, Kymora Scott and Charlotte Such from their team, who all played large roles in setting the tone for the team.

Senior captains Cooper and Scott were large contributors to the team’s success, not only with leading this team mentally but physically too.

Going into the playoffs, Cooper is currently ranked 3rd in blocks and Scott is 3rd in kills in the South Suburban Conference.

Scott reminds herself that the game is bigger than herself. She credits sophomore libero Sydney Skinner with encouraging her to be more vocal and present on the court because her energy helps lead the team.

The Lady Vikings have overcome obstacles this season and now they have figured out what works for them and how to play together. This showed during their game on Oct. 16 vs. Lincoln-Way West Highschool, grinding out a 2-1 win in a very competitive match.

Cooper added, “The [Lincoln-Way West] game was a big game for all of us, but it showed me how much my blocking is relied on by the team.”

The underclassmen rely on the seniors to be a positive influence on the court, which makes them push themselves and the underclassmen to be the best they can for the team.

Scott said, “We had a talk with the underclassmen during the West game. We told them to play for the seniors, play with a more intense drive because this is our last year, and I want them to play like it’s theirs with a selfless motive.”

This makes an even bigger push for the underclassmen to step up. “We are setting up this mantle and expectation for them to meet.” Head varsity coach Nathaniel Nesbit

On Oct. 28, they defeated Reavis High School for their first game in Regionals to advance to the championship game, in which they lost to St. Laurence Highschool on Oct. 30, finishing there season off for this year.
