It’s 2016 and with that being said, we should be done with prejudice, racism, and ignorance.

The debate began when celebrities started to speak out about the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations.

With it being 2016 and not the 1950’s, these are problems African-Americans shouldn’t have to deal with.

Stacey Dash suggested that true integration means we should get rid of Black History Month and TV stations like BET because these promote segregation.

Her ridiculous assertion said, “We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET

Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she continued. “If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard. There shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re Americans, period.”

Stacey Dash has a right to her opinion, which is pure ignorance, but again that’s my opinion that I have a right to.

Stacey Dash is just wrong.

First off, BET (Black Entertainment Television) was created to give blacks a place where their talents were recognized, after being ignored on White produced award shows. While that was one of the main goals, BET has also recognized and even awarded all races and ethnicities.

Television shows on BET have diverse cast members as well.

After all, didn’t Sam Smith win a BET award last year?

Isn’t Mary Jane’s BFF Latina?

BET exists in part because networks like MTV and award shows like the Oscars do not diversify the content or nominees.

The irony in Stacey Dash’s comments are just bizarre.

It’s like someone asking “Why can’t we have a White History Month?”

White people are the majority. There is something called “white privilege” that they get to have just for being white.

Having white skin affords many of unearned privileges in life that people of color simply are not afforded.

They’re able to see their race widely represented, able to go shopping without getting harassed, and are able to go outside and not get shot by a white cop.

Again, I’m just stating my opinion.

Segregation does exist via social engineering, education systems, and between rich and poor.

The segregation is systematic and whites have allowed structures to be separate and unequal for years.
BET, NAACP, and Black History Month are not the same as exclusively white institutions and organizations like the KKK. The goals are different and if someone actually thinks this way (assuming Dash is joking), they are ultimately trying to cover up the truths of America’s racial past and present.
Whether Stacey Dash realizes it or not, she’s a puppet and FOX is using her ignorance to push their agenda.

That’s another story.

Stacey, get over that self-hate girl. That internalized anti-blackness has to go.
