Lock In and Study for Finals!

Finals week is quickly creeping upon us and people are stressed about how to study in order to have the grades that they want. Will studying make you feel better about yourself and maintain excellent grades and scores, or will it mentally drain you until the final exams?

Different students have viewpoints on how they study for finals, depending on how important the subject or study is to make sure they do not miss anything important in each subject.

Sophomore Kennedy Flowers expressed how she studies for finals. “I go to the library with my friends and I study for all my finals. I do my cheat sheets and I go to Starbucks, and we all have a little study group, a couple of weeks before finals, so we could have a lot of time to prepare for them,” said Flowers.

According to Honor Society Program, finals can affect students not only physically, but mentally. “The weight of impending exams, assignments and projects can lead to heightened anxiety levels among students. The constant juggling act of studying, revising and managing time can leave them feeling overwhelmed and mentally exhausted,” explained the program.

These methods could break you mentally especially if you choose to cram a lot of work in one or two nights. By the time you take the exam you are tired, exhausted and maybe with no energy. Therefore, taking a step by step process is better than studying for everything at once and stressing not only your physical body, but your brain mentally.

Sophomore Aron Pineda has shown that he studies for finals by the difficulty of the course. “Generally, I do, it depends on the difficulty of the class, but I would say, no. I would take out the study guide and I would begin to answer questions that I know the answers to first, and then I would work my way to the harder, more difficult questions. And if I really can’t understand what they’re about, I would just search up the answer or figure out a way to do it,” said Pineda

His method was to focus more on the most difficult subjects first and knock out questions there. Using the study guides that the teachers give him is beneficial, but if the class is easier or does not require much studying, he does not study for that class.

Point Loma Nazarene University has given some tips for the best ways to study. The list is to not  procrastinate, to get sleep instead of worrying about studying for so many hours, finding a conducive space to study, creating a playlist to help study, get rid of distractions specifically devices, mix different study methods, start writing out practice test questions, working with study groups, making sure that you take breaks in between and maintain a healthy balanced diet to prevent fatigue.

Sophomore Ariana Soto has shared how she studies for finals: “I do a lot, I use a lot of flash cards and I do a lot of note-taking.”

Her method is to use flash cards for vocabulary and writing easy notes for her to understand and remember.

From helpful tips and different points of view from students, you can study for finals with ease and a good step-by-step guide for you to achieve the grades you believe you deserve.
